Mining the future: Collaborative pathways to responsible raw materials

gruvnaring.png

Clean energy technologies require a significant amount of minerals and metals. It is critical that these are produced, extracted and refined in a way that minimises impact on the environment while maximising the benefit for countries where these materials are found. Responsible mining standards are at the heart of driving responsible mining practices, supporting companies to minimise their environmental and social footprint and holding them to account for their sustainability performance.

The current standards landscape is complicated, with more than 200 different responsible mining performance standards co-existing and with varying uptake across commodities, jurisdictions, and operation sizes. Through this panel we will have a dynamic discussion about what is being done to address this complexity and what the future holds. The following questions will be asked:

  • What is the role of the global mining industry in achieving climate and sustainable development objectives?
  • What does the current landscape of standards for responsible raw material production look like and how do you expect this to evolve in the future?
  • How can common standards convert climate commitments to action?
